Take a stand

Unlikely pair.

I’ve been known to pair a good, cheap bottle of wine with Cheez-Its while watching classic movies like Pride and Prejudice, or romantic comedies like How To Lose  A Guy In 10 Days.

My favorite brand of good, cheap wine is Yellow Tail. I’m partial to the pinot grigio, shiraz and merlot.

But no more.

Today I discovered that Yellow Tail donated $100,000 to the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).

I’m hoping it’s because they were confused. Had they offered money to the American Humane Association — protecting children and animals from cruelty, abuse and neglect for over 130 years — I wouldn’t have given it a second thought. I may even have toasted their generosity.

But they didn’t.

They turned over funds to one of the richest anti-farming, pro-animal rights groups in the U.S. They are not using those donations to care for helpless puppies, folks. They’re using it to pay their executives. And those people sit around all day and think of legislation and tactics to eradicate animal agriculture.

You know all of those hard-working, dedicated, comitted and compassionate folks who raise animals so our children can drink milk, eat eggs for breakfast, and enjoy burgers and barbecue at family reunions? HSUS despises those folks. They could care less that farmers and ranchers make animal care and health a No. 1 priority.

Adios amigos.

I can’t support a product that supports such an organization … no matter how much I appreciate the pleasures of Yellow Tail merlot with the cheezy goodness of a cheezy chip with a hole in the middle.

If you want to help animals, support your local Humane Society. Steer clear … far, far away, from the Humane Society of the United States. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME.

I’m with you Farm Girl. Try Woodbridge - they have a nice Cab that goes well with microwave popcorn (from the Boy Scouts).

Couldn’t have said it better myself! Looks like it is time to find a new brand. I know I am!

Try Troutman Vineyards Farmer’s Red or White instead. Produced in Wayne County Ohio on a family farming operation by Ohio Farm Bureau’s Young Farmer of the Year. Very pro-agriculture. Check them out! And no, I have no financial interest in the company- I just like their wines.
