View from the porch

The dog days are approaching.

I did some sittin’ over the weekend. Somewhere between the cookouts, stall mucking and livingroom painting spree, I sat on a black rocker on the porch and imagined the landscaping that could be. (The above photo is not my porch, by the way. I just liked the dog and the screen door.)

Do you have a dream porch?

Do you have grand landscaping plans?

I do. Always.

Unfortunately, mine are usually thwarted by life, budget and uggh, weeds. Forgive me, but the first step in my landscaping reality: a sprayer filled with Roundup. I’m sorry.

The second step? Search and Rescue.

For the Farmboy workboots on top of the bunny cage … the red bucket in the middle of the driveway. The frisbee in the yard. The stray baseball bat on the sidewalk. The miscellaneous bicycles and wagons and sandbox tools crowding the area off the porch. The big brown spot from the tent that was used all weekend. All signs of a wonderful weekend. We played hard, laughed much and sweated a lot.

So while my FarmGuy transforms the fencerows with his weed-eating machine and I mix up a few gallons of Roundup for the wilderness that likes to creep in to the tamed lands, let’s dream.

It’s summertime … time for dreaming outdoors.

Here are a few beautiful porches I found at the Better Homes & Garden and Country Living websites. And quite frankly … there are no weeds on my porch. Transforming that space just seems a lot easier at the moment. Then again, it’s only 5:42 a.m. Maybe I just need some coffee.

Enjoy!

Although, they are all beautiful…I have to say the first and last are definately my fav’s! I’ll help whenever you say go!

I notice that there is one thing in common with all of these porch pictures…none of them have semi trucks trying to make the turn on Rt. 9.

    They must be so peaceful!!

  4. Goodness me, I just found your blog and love it! THIS post had me thinkin we’re kindred spirits; same dreams, same realities… I’ve been dreaming of a tidy boxwood circle in front of my porch, not the actual weeds n “cottage garden” mess I see… A pretty porch w/out chicken poop n stray toys n boots n waiting projects would complete my fantasy! We burn up weedwhackers and dream of preen n round-up while trying to be organic. *sigh* Thanks for sharing the beautiful pics. I’ll be back soon for more inspiration!
    hugs,

BTW – I also have an aged horse that scares me when the vultures sit posts n spread their wings! ;-O
