Every once in awhile I need a gift idea for someone hundreds of miles away.

Seems these things always present themselves at the last minute, which limits my ability to shop, select and send a gift on time. Thankfully, there’s a place with a vast selection of options that can be purchased, wrapped and delivered quickly … ProFlowers.com.

This service may be difficult for people with control issues like me. After all, you don’t actually see the live version of your gift. Who knows what gets delivered to your friend or family member when you’re not around.

Never fear, my friends.

They sent me a free sample and I’m here to tell you it’s quite delightful.

I selected the Lemon Grass and Ginger Spa Basket.

It reminded me of a sunny day, which would be perfect to send a friend who’s feeling blue, a new mommy or a sister whose birthday takes her to a new decade. (Happy 30th, sis!)

These goodies make me want to light some candles, fill the tub with suds and sink into warm, watery bliss.

They smell delightful. They’re packaged beautifully. They arrived lickety-split.

And just in case you don’t need a spa package, they offer fresh flowers and green plants, teddy bear baskets, fruit baskets — even bonsai trees. There’s something for everyone.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to retreat to the spa.

Just a swingin’

It has taken me three decades and three kids to understand something I learned at age 3.

Forget Calgon and bubble baths and massages and chocolate. They don’t really solve the melancholy when life is overwhelming and the chaos begins to overshadow the joy. What you really need to do is kick off your shoes, head outside and hop on a swing.

Point your toes to the sky.

Feel the rush of the wind.

Revel in the warm sunshine on your face.

Before you know it, you’re smiling.

See … they know the secret to happiness.

And why should they be the only ones to enjoy the to and fro?
