Going stag for Mother’s Day

Staghorn fern

Last night after the kids were in bed and my favorite TV show concluded (previews for next week include a plane crash! Seriously?!), this lovely specimen appeared. It’s a staghorn fern and I’ve been wanting one for ages — ever since our trip to the Beech Creek Botanical Garden & Nature Preserve last August.

It’s mounted much like antlers — stag horns! — and will continue to grow and prosper and get hornier. Ha!

The man who made me a mother said it was a serious hunting excursion to find  the elusive staghorn. But he succeeded! The fern was acquired at Quailcrest Farm here in Ohio.

Thanks for listening, honey. Thanks for remembering something even I forgot about!
You’re awesome!

And all you mothers out there … you’re awesome, too. Celebrate your status as the queen of quite-a-lot this weekend. Happy Mother’s Day!

A very cool plant. I used to work at Quailcrest Farm. It was a great place to work.
I hope your coop sign up went good. Saw you but not able to talk.
    Happy Mothers Day!!
