Baby, it’s the guitar {wo}man

tuning guitar before recital

Fine tuning. Weeks of practice and days of 10-year-old angst, worry and nervousness … a prescription because poison ivy spread to her face … indecision over what to wear … prayers and assurances that all would be well … determination and firm resolve in the face of walking on stage. That’s what’s been brewing around here — her very first guitar recital.

preparing for guitar recital

A dozen kids played their tunes before her turn to take the stage. She climbed atop the stool, shrugged the fuzzy pink strap over her shoulder, and with a quick glance and a few words from her instructor, began to play.

And she played wonderfully … with determination and concentration and energy. She received the smile of approval, and then turned to give us the happiest, most relieved smile that we’ve seen on her face in days — weeks, maybe.

Sweet relief! And each of the 30 students wore a similar expression. Congratulations to my merry musical middle child. A job very well done!

Congratulations, I remember a piano recital one time, I forgot part of it and replayed what I remembered over a couple times.
