Bake-offs and basketball easy as pie
A bake-off. Each daughter created one large and one small (tart-sized) pie. They didn’t use recipes but they did make homemade pie fillings with blueberries from the freezer and an apple from the fridge. Each family member was allowed a small sample.
Then we voted.
Daughter No. 2, the middle child, had tastier fillings. She used more sugar. Her crusts, however, left something to be desired. They were tough and a bit chewy.
Daughter No. 1, the oldest of my offspring, proved her crusts were top-notch. Her fillings? Not so much. They were a bit tart. Not enough sugar to sweeten her berries. Buttery, flaky crusts? Yes.
So we voted … the mom, the dad, the son.
We determined it was a tie.
The happy little homemakers decided to swap secrets and lend advice. There’s another bake-off planned for later in the week.
And their brother?
He’s working on perfecting his technique, too.
