Year in review, part two

We made a lot of tasty things in 2012.

It was a year of yummy salads and mighty fine soups like corn chowder and sausage orecchiette and a new one I’ll share with you tomorrow, maybe. The desserts are worth mentioning … like the cupcakes from St. Patrick’s Day. It’s just around the corner, you know, so be sure to bookmark these minty little sweet treats!

If you’re following along from Part One, you’ll know we left off in June. What happened next?


I planned a surprise party for the girl with the flower in her hair. Except as the day progressed she thought we forgot or didn’t have time to celebrate her birth. There were tears. There was heartbreak. And then … a very, very huge luau surprise at Aunt Rebekah’s house.

And in July we had not one, not two, but three blue-ribbon winners in the family. July is county fair time around here. They earned a few accolades and made memories and grinned an awful lot!

We took a last trip to the woods before school started. They were thrilled with the hike but not so excited about the shiny new math books waiting for them back at the ranch.

And Baron joined the family with sale earnings from the girls’ 4-H hogs.

The Mr. and I headed to West Virginia for work … but I managed to squeeze in a quick photo tour of The Greenbrier before we got down to Certified Angus Beef ® brand business.

… and met some great folks that weekend!

Lovely, colorful October … when I was feeling a bit bookish and a lovin’ some hire-the-hubby-to-build-it-for-me redecorating!

Oh! And there was also that accidental tour of the barrel of monkeys Kentucky cooperage when we ran an errand for my brother. You know … the day we watched ’em burning the barrels at Kelvin Cooperage.

Sweet November
My maiden voyage into the aromatic world of bread baking. I swear, when you’re broke(n) you knead dough. You’ll feel much, much better — or at the very least, you’ll have something tasty to soothe you and those around you!

And quite honestly, homemade bread goes so very well with Braised Chuck Roast.

It passes so very quickly, don’t you agree? It finally snowed here in eastern Ohio.

We received the white Christmas of our dreams as we celebrated special moments and life-saving joy with those around us and those most dear to us.


And now …

The year 2013 approaches. I do believe I’ll make some resolutions this year … not the kind that cause angst and antagonism, but the kind that remind me to live for the love of it all, walk in Godly apparel and share goodness wherever I go. It’s not easy. I’m angered by injustice, I’m frustrated by ridiculousness and I’m impatient with those around me every. single. day. But I resolve to give it a Godly go and strive for my best effort. How about you?
