Last Saturday I was feeling
blue green. Maybe it was the bright sunshine, the vibrant grass and the rising temperatures. I just had the urge to spruce up a bit … without spending a lot of dough. The first step was to persuade the hubby to help me carry this old church pew into the house. I bought it at an auction several years ago when our church was updating the sanctuary seating. At some point I painted it black, but it sat outside all winter and it was perfectly prepped for a new coat!
Here’s the finished product. While the paint dried I ran to Kohl’s on an errand. I don’t go there often, but this time I had the forethought to print out an online coupon – 20% off . The coupon paired nicely with a BOGO for $1 offer on throw pillows.
The kids picked a few branches from an ornamental pear tree for the vase, and since we’re always searching for the binoculars, I put them on display. I also stopped at that used furniture place where I scored that cute little yellow dresser a few months ago. I found this little table in a corner under the biggest, most hideous brass vase/urn thing I have ever seen. The table was 40 bucks, cobwebs included. And the other items were scavenged from around the house.
After my rearranging, I decided I needed to shed some light on the subject of the green bench near my back door. I love those upside down bell jar-style candelabras, but they’re a bit steep for my saving-for-a-summer-road-trip budget.
But an exterior carriage lantern substitutes nicely, I think. I convinced Farmguy to hang it and wire it for me. Transformation complete for under $95. I told him this project will lighten his load.
Did you smile?
He didn’t. 😉
