Wintertime and the livin’ is easy
It’s inevitable … January’s blustery weather is followed by a few days of mild breezes, sunny skies and rain. Seed catalogs start arriving in the mailbox and I forget there’s a long way to go before April showers and May flowers. I plan, dream and scheme for bigger, better gardens and raised beds overflowing with juicy tomatoes and fresh herbs. (While conveniently forgetting what’s involved in such a plot of ground!)
My daughter joined the fervor, too. She went through the Burpee catalog and made a list of a few veggies she’d like us to grow, followed by a long list of flowers. She even totaled it for me and was upset to discover I wasn’t prepared to spend several hundred dollars on pretty petals and giant sunflowers.
It’s our mid-winter supplication — this craving for new growth and productive displays. I calmed our urges by purchasing a few hyacinth bulbs in pretty little glass jars from the local ‘mart’. I can’t wait until they burst into bloom in all their pink and white glory!
In case you’re dreaming and scheming, too, I wanted to pass some savings on to you. Now through Jan. 22, Burpee is offering Free Shipping on orders of $25 or more with code AFFBFS14 at Burpee.com! And you can save even more in the month of January: Take $10 off your Order of $40 or more with Coupon AFFBTEN4.
Hopefully that’ll help calm your cravings for spring. Go cuddle up in your fuzzy socks with a hot cup o’ Joe, give a cursory glance to the snowflakes slowly starting to fall out the window, and dream of your garden and flowerbeds. Might I suggest you also try to recall what it takes to maintain a big garden. Perhaps it will make this cold season of rest all the more relaxing and enjoyable!
Happy spring dreaming!
