The day I met my [blogging] hero

May sunset in Ohio

The last seven days have been rather surreal. Last Saturday I dressed in a hotel room and prepared myself for another day at a food blogging conference in Florida. This Saturday I pulled my pink bathrobe on over my pajamas and went to the barn to feed horses and let the chickens out of their coop. Last Saturday I was grabbing tiny little bottles of Tabasco sauce from the breakfast buffet at the hotel — a souvenir from my trip for the boy in my life …

Farm boy in the kitchen

… and this Saturday I’m listening to that boy yelling up the stairs, “Hey, Dad! Are you cookin’ breakfast? Are we having pancakes and sausage, or eggs and bacon? Can I help?” Because my husband likes to cook breakfast in cast iron skillets on Saturday mornings, and he always has eager sous chef volunteers.

The conference ended Saturday night. We hopped a cab to the airport at 4:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. By noon I was back in the company of my favorite people in the whole world. But before that, before life returned to normal …

… before I left the quiet, organized, pampering feel of a hotel room to myself …

… and before I was back at home in the hills with cows and horses and chickens and dogs and wild hooligans …

THIS HAPPENED.

The Farmgirl meets the Pioneer Woman at BlogHer Food in Miami.

And of course I was thrilled and excited and nervous, which resulted in a goofy, giddy smile so big it appears my eye is twitching. I texted the photo to my family that night, and my daughters eagerly replied, “You’re wearing the same earrings!!!”

Indeed. So I met the Pioneer Woman and we both have excellent taste in turquoise. I think we should be friends! And in fact, I have coffee with her every Saturday morning.

She’s on Food Network and I’ll be watching.

It was thrilling, Susanne. But there’s no place like home!

I watch her every Saturday morning too! I am wishing I could go back and relive Miami but for no I too have returned to my favorite people- the family. However, there is something nice about having a hotel room all to yourself. The best part is that the remote is YOURS and you can watch whatever you want!
