Mending The Frail and Torn

Sentinel tree in a winter snow.

Ever feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders? Take heart friends. These days, feeling worn or heavy-hearted is [sadly] commonplace. Sometimes it’s easier to remain in the deep, dark places than it is to push through tribulations and turn your face to the son. Sometimes we hope and pray for a certain result and it doesn’t come. We’re lost. We’re disappointed. We struggle to understand, to move forward, to find our way from wreckage to light of day. We’re tired. We’re worn. But … there is hope.

Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. ~ Matthew 11:29-30

As is usually the case for me, music speaks louder than spoken words. When I have a “crush” on a certain song I usually listen to it over and over and over until my eight-year-old knows all the words and commences sing at random intervals. It’s always a surprise — and a reminder to be mindful of my music choices. Melodies and lyrics speak to me … it’s like therapy for the bargain price of an iTunes download! The following by Tenth Avenue North is my current favorite. It tops my “Melancholy” play list. Yeah, for real. Melancholy is my emotional middle. Sometimes sitting smack dab on the center line is the only way to see the best and the worst of a situation, to examine the facts and figures from all angles. You can see to the left and right, what’s behind and what’s coming.

So rest smack dab in the middle with me, where we can be Worn and reborn together. And let me know what you think of this song!

I’m tired
I’m worn
My heart is heavy
From the work it takes to keep on breathing

I’ve made mistakes
I’ve let my hope fail
My soul feels crushed
By the weight of this world
And I know that you can give me rest
So I cry out with all that I have left

Let me see redemption win
Let me know the struggle ends
That you can mend a heart that’s frail and torn

I want to know a song can rise
From the ashes of a broken life
And all that’s dead inside can be reborn
Cause I’m worn

I know I need
To lift my eyes up
But I’m too weak
Life just won’t let up
And I know that You can give me rest
So I cry out with all that I have left

Let me see redemption win
Let me know the struggle ends
That you can mend a heart that’s frail and torn

I want to know a song can rise
From the ashes of a broken life
And all that’s dead inside can be reborn
Cause I’m worn

And my prayers are wearing thin
I’m worn even before the day begins
I’m worn I’ve lost my will to fight
I’m worn so heaven come and flood my eyes

Let me see redemption win
Let me know the struggle ends
That you can mend a heart that’s frail and torn

I want to know a song can rise
From the ashes of a broken life
And all that’s dead inside can be reborn
Yes all that’s dead inside will be reborn
Though I’m worn
Yeah I’m worn

Great share, Jennifer. Christian music is so deep and inspiring. It’s comforting to be reminded how much God loves us and our imperfections. He is there for us we just need to turn his way … always.
