Dear June, how art thou?

Mountain Laurel - Pennsylvania WildsHello, dear friends. I hope you’re sunshine, thunderstorms and precious blooms. I hope you’ve made simple discoveries! I hope you’ve found occasion to laugh — great, belly-busting guffaws that shake you to the core and leave you gasping for breath. I hope you have reveled in single moments … pondered unanswered questions … walked in the rain … smelled the wild blooms … gazed over yonder.

There is no time like the present!

I have been doing a bit of all of that, myself. We’ve enjoyed the company of new family members …

Baby chicks at Tuckaway Farm.… and we’ve been praying over the regulars who escaped and helped themselves to feed.

American Paint Horses at Tuckaway FarmIt’s a long story and I’ll share it in coming days. It could have been so much worse than it was!

We’ve also been enjoying simple summer pleasures … together!

Swimming at the relatives' houseAnd no summer would be complete without ice cream and all its delectable flavors …

Ice cream at the Farmer's Inn, Sigel, PA.And of course, there is summer bounty to be preserved!

June is for making strawberry jam!And soon — sooner than we’d all like to believe — the county fair will be upon us. So we’ve been practicing a bit, too. These 4-Hers are practicing showmanship skills. 4-Hers practicing for the dairy beef show. What kind of summer fun have you been up to over the last couple of weeks? I’d love to know what’s keeping you busy (besides work. We work to live and if we’re lucky, we live to work.) But what else  are you doing to make these sweet summer days memorable?

Go exploring! You may enjoy these previous posts.

We’ve been enjoying weekends at Leesville Lake complete with boat rides and campfires. Love it! I think of you and your family every time we pass thru Augusta on Friday and Sunday. Saw some of your family eagerly waiting for the parade Friday evening! Those community events are something I miss from growing up in the big city of Winona!!! Enjoy your summer, I look forward to hearing about camp and the fair!

Looks like you and the family are taking advantage of the best summer has to offer. I’m still thinking it’s ” late late spring,” but I might have to realize life moves a little faster each year.

I remember participating in and hosting workshops and helping 4-Hers with their projects. It’s fun to get together and bring the livestock for an evening of practice and visiting.

Pretty blooms and rhubarb jam? I have harvested the first bunch of rhubarb and made mine into muffins.

We are getting ready to start haying, got the last of the cattle out to grass and doing ranch tasks around the yard.

Oh, Robyn! Time seems to pass so quickly and some weeks go by before I realize they began. It’s a busy season, but the little things help us slow down and relax. I would love to try rhubarb jam. We made strawberry, but I remember my neighbor growing up always had rhubarb near his outhouse. Yes, he still used it! Good luck with hay season. Try to stay cool! 🙂
