There’s No Other Way
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates of the city. ~ Revelation 22:14
There’s an old hymn, Trust and Obey. It begins, “When we walk with the Lord in the light of his word, what a glory he sheds on our way; while we do his good will he abides with us still, and with all who will trust and obey. Trust and obey, for there’s no other way …”
It really is as simple — and immeasurably complicated — as that. Those who follow the commandments clearly outlined in the Bible will receive the tree of life — the blessings of God — and enter into Heaven. Trust and obey. Through trial and tribulation, in the moments of every ordinary day. Have faith.
Or, we can struggle and seek solace in everything on earth, only to realize the answers we seek have been in front of us all along. And they’re painfully simple: we must cease our futile attempts at control. We must turn our thoughts, cares, actions, words, deeds — the very air we breathe — over to God. It’s a simple thing; but it’s not painless. It hurts. It can be a challenge. But oh, the peace that passes all understanding when we do it.
We won’t have all the answers. We won’t be without tragedy and heartache — in fact, we’ll probably have even more! But we’ll come to realize there is beauty in every single heart-wrenching tear, every defeated moment, every turning away from the thoughts and whims of the world. There will be defeat. There will be sorrow. There will be tests of faith and love and stamina and strength. But there will not be hopelessness. There will not be total devastation. There will be comfort and solace and never-ending love.
Trust and obey for there’s no other way!
