Enjoy Good Friday Green Pastures and Navigate Muddy Water

Green pastures and icy cold waterholes on hot spring days. It would never have occurred to them to wish for anything else at this point in time. They were contented. Their needs were met by the simple wonder, joy and peace of creation. They had everything they needed on this beautiful Good Friday.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures: he leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul: he leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointeth my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. – Psalm 23

Twins at the waterhole - Good Friday

Living water? Yes, indeed. This water hole is teeming with life both above and below the surface (and along the edges) — which is why I told them not to drink the water.

“Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” – John 7:38

The requirement for peace that passes all understanding is so very simple. And yet we plod along, feeling our way and doing the best we can to keep our paths straight on our own. We’re always unsure of the next step and it fills us with worry and fear, perhaps a longing we can’t understand. And we fall … will always fall … will always be thirsty. Unless we find our way to the source.

“But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. – John 4:14

Good Friday testimony. These boys have no clue they served as a witness to me today. They splashed and laughed while I watched through a lens, all the while thinking of green pastures and still waters, faith and healing, and living water — sacrificial blood — that washed away all dirt and debris, all sin and deception. Forever.

Cleaned. Renewed. Given chances we don’t deserve because we are so loved and always will be.

Your faithfulness continues through all generations; you established the earth, and it endures. Your laws endure to this day, for all things serve you. If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have preserved my life. – Psalm 119:90-93

When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. – John 13:12-17

Good Friday. Holy Friday. Sacred Friday. Sacrificial Friday — when Jesus wore the unimaginable burden of suffering and terror for you, for me, for these boys, for every man, woman and child. He was crucified — on what we now refer to as ‘Good Friday’ and three days later: up from the grave He arose! It is our Easter celebration, our victory in Jesus — a victory for all who accept the gift.

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. – John 13:34-35

Blessed Easter to you.
